I initially became aware of the impact of the built environment on the human psyche through my first experiences traveling abroad in Europe and Australia. I still vividly remember the building on the coast of Cairns, Australia that sparked my interest in architecture. As a child with a deep love of nature (I wanted approximately 29 huskies growing up) it did not take long for me to realize the potential of architecture to change the world; Considering that humans spend 98% of their time inside a building or designed space of some sort, I began to think of the built environment as the mesh or membrane that connects humans to nature, or more accurately, as a reflection of humans relationship to wild nature. I have since learned it is erroneous to think of humans as separate from nature. If I could change the built environment, perhaps I could change mankind's relationship with nature… Ever since those travels, I have steadfastly worked towards my goal of becoming an architect. I graduated from CU Boulder in 2016 with a Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Design and immediately began practicing architectural design with a focus on energy efficient greenhouse design and food production. I am excited to continue on the path to licensure with ShelterBelt Design and to focus on the interior spaces that support outdoor experiences.
